It’s a funny thing, but despite all of the trauma and anxiety that the Covid virus has caused, there have also been plenty of upsides.
By now I had planned to be expanding my photography business again after the birth of our wonderful daughter Francesca Poppy. There were weddings booked, family photo shoots in the diary and several corporate shoots planned as well.
Although I’m managing to sneak in the odd socially distanced shoot here and there, most bookings are now on hold until such time as our normal lives can start again.
But, on the positive side of the equation, there have been many real upsides. Alex, Frankie and I have had the opportunity to spend an extraordinary amount of time together – most of it outside in some fantastic weather.
Contact with our extended family has been amazing in the wonderful world of social media. We’ve shared photos and videos every day of Frankie exploring her world as only a young child can and we are able to speak on video Messenger whenever we choose. The virus has brought us closer together, not pushed us apart.
I’ve also found time to revive some of my old hobbies, finding another outlet for creativity and craft.
Poppy & Scrunch has become my response to Lockdown. It has been a chance to get my sewing machine out again, to play with beautiful fabrics, and to create useful items that make things a bit more enjoyable in these socially distanced times.
My mum and my friends have provided the inspiration, my talented Nana - Joy Wheeler has provided the artwork and logo and I have contributed the time at the sewing machine (whenever Francesca has played along by taking a nap!).
So here is Poppy & Scrunch, it will never take the place of my photography, but is my shot at keeping creativity and beauty alive during these challenging times.
I hope you enjoy! x
